CONCEPT

My diploma collection Nacht-Geweihte tells the story of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde. It was created under a strong influence of costume design, through the lens of fashion design. The collection explores these theoretical aspects, music, literary and linguistic influences which prove to be of timeless significance. Indulging in theory and in the analysis of Tristan and Isolde’s motives gave emergence to an atmospheric ambience. My designs arose out of this process of intense contemplation: musical motives and emotional sentiments led to the formation of the silhouettes. Three couples enact the collection, each couple representing one act of Tristan und Isolde. Indulging in theory and analysis of Tristan und Isolde motives emerged and built an atmospheric setting. Colours and fabrics of my collection aim to underline the silhouettes, to tell the story of Tristan and Isolde’s yearning and striving towards each other, their brief thriving in colour and volume within their nightly encounter and finally their unfulfilled remainders dissolving into darkness and oblivion. The creation process was to draw along said silhouettes and to approach what is not palpable, to express this work and music in vivid figures, to manifest Tristan und Isolde in a visual embodiment in one collection.
